The Honorable Sethuraman Panchanathan is a computer scientist and engineer and the 15 th director of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). NSF is an $8.8B independent federal agency and the only government agency charged with advancing all fields of scientific discovery, technological innovation, and STEM education.

Dr. Panchanathan has a distinguished career in science, technology, engineering, and education that spans more than three decades. He served as executive vice president of the Arizona State University Knowledge Enterprise, where he also founded the Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing. Prior to becoming director of NSF, Panchanathan served on the National Science Board for six years and has also served on and chaired numerous high-level research and innovation organizations. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Computing Machinery,and other prestigious science and engineering organizations.Dr. Panchanathan’sscientific contributions have advanced the areas of human-centered multimedia computing, haptic user interfaces, person-centered ubiquitous computing technologies for empowering individuals with a range of abilities.

Kris Gopalakrishnan

Chairman, Axilor Ventures

Mr. Senapathy ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan is the Chairman of Axilor Ventures, a seed fund. He is one of the co-founders of Infosys, and served as its Vice Chairman from 2011 to 2014, and as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director from 2007 to 2011.

Recognized as a global business and technology thought leader, he was voted the top CEO (IT services category) in Institutional Investor's inaugural ranking of Asia's Top Executives. Mr. Gopalakrishnan was also selected to Thinkers 50, an elite list of global business thinkers, in 2009. He was elected President of India's apex industry chamber, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2013 – 14, and served as one of the co-chairs of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2014.

In January 2011, the Government of India awarded Kris the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian honor.

Mr Gopalakrishnan serves on the Board of Governors of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) and is the Chairman, Board of Governors of IIIT, Bangalore. He is the Chairman of the Vision Group on Information Technology of Karnataka Government, the Chairman of CII Start-up Council, and the first Chairperson of the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan holds Master’s degrees in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) and an Honorary Fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) of India.

Govindan Rangarajan

Director, Indian Institute of Science

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan obtained an Integrated MSc (Hons) degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and a PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. He then worked at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab, University of California, Berkeley, before returning to India in 1992. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), since 1992. He is currently the Director of IISc.

Prof. Rangarajan’s research interests include nonlinear dynamics and chaos and time series analysis. He is a JC Bose National Fellow. He is also a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. He was awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques (Knight of the Order of Academic Palms) by the Government of France. He was also a Homi Bhabha Fellow.

As co-PI of the Indo-French Cyber University Project, he helped establish the first inter-continental satellite-based courses. These courses were taught live to Indian and French students in various subject areas. He also headed the National Mathematics Initiative, which ran instructional schools and workshops in cutting-edge areas at the interface between mathematics and other fields. He was instrumental in setting up and running the interdisciplinary PhD programme in mathematical sciences. He also headed the Indo-US Virtual Institute for Mathematics and Statistical Sciences, which was jointly set up by the National Science Foundation, USA and the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum, India. He is currently the Director of the Indo-French Centre for Applied Mathematics (IFCAM), the first Unités Mixtes Internationales of CNRS, France in India. This is a joint venture between the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India, and a consortium of French institutions. IFCAM supports joint research projects between India and France in the broad area of applied mathematics.

Prof. Rangarajan has also served as the Chair, Department of Mathematics and Convener, Digital Information Services Centre from 2002 to 2008. He was the Chair, International Relations Cell (now called the Office of International Relations) from 2008 to 2014. Most recently, he was the Chair of the Division of Interdisciplinary Research (comprising 10 departments and centres) from 2014-2020. He also headed IISc’s fundraising and alumni outreach efforts in his role as the Chair, Office of Development and Alumni Affairs from 2015-2020.

Sandeep Verma

Secretary, Science and Engineering Research Board

Prof. Sandeep Verma took charge as Secretary of Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) on 8th April 2019. Prof. Verma holds doctoral degree from the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago (1994), followed by two postdoctoral stints at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, USA, and at Max-Planck-Institute for Experimentelle Medizin, Goettingen, Germany. He joined the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, in 1997, where he is a Professor of Chemistry. He is also an affiliated faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, Center for Nanoscience, and Center for Environmental Science and Engineering at IIT, Kanpur. His work has been recognized by the Goyal Prize (2019), J C Bose Fellowship (2015), Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (2010), DAE-SRC Outstanding Investigator Award (2010), Swarnajayanti Fellowship (2005), B M Birla Science Prize (2004), to name a few. He recently received the Distinguished Alumnus Award (2020) of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He is an elected fellow of Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences, India. He is an Associate Editor of Chemical Communications (Royal Society of Chemistry, UK) and serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Cell Chemical Biology, ChemBioChem, and Journal of Peptide Science. His research interests include programmable soft matter for neuronal regeneration, bioinspired nanomaterials, novel antimicrobials, and small molecule-stem cell modulation.

N. Dayasindhu

N. Dayasindhu is co-founder and CEO of itihaasa Research and Digital. He has over two decades of experience including a decade in Infosys. He has advised Fortune 500 companies on IT and R&D globalization. His research interests are Indian industry including Indian IT, competitiveness, and national R&D and innovation ecosystems. Dayasindhu is cited more than 350 times by researchers in all permanently inhabited continents of the world. Dayasindhu holds two United States patents. He has a PhD in Management from IIM Bangalore, and a Masters in Physics from IIT Madras.

Krishnan Narayanan

Krishnan Narayanan is co-founder and President of itihaasa Research and Digital. He brings over two decades of experience in digital consulting and technology commercialization. He spent 13 years with Infosys, where he was a member of the Infosys Labs Management Council, managed a global transformation program in partnership with Microsoft and collaborated with research & innovation clusters from the U.S., Netherlands and Australia. He founded a water start-up in India. He has a Bachelor of Technology degree from IIT Madras and a management degree from XLRI Jamshedpur.

Rajesh Sundaresan

Before joining as Professor in Indian Institute of Science, Rajesh worked as Visiting Faculty, in Toulouse Mathematics Institute , Universite Paul Sabatier October 2015, as Visiting Scholar, Coordinated Science Laboratory , University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, August 2012 – July 2013, Visiting Faculty, Summer of 2007 and Senior Staff Engineer / Manager, 2005 at Qualcomm Inc., Currently he is the Dean of the Division of EECS (Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Sciences) since August 2021.

Rajesh did his Ph.D., (1999) and M.A. (1996), in Electrical Engineering, from Princeton University. He got his B.Tech., (1994) in Electronics, from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Rajesh’s research interests are in the area of Communication, computation, and control over networks, decentralised algorithms over graphs and networks, network analytics, information geometry.

Nandini Kannan

Executive Director, IUSSTF

Dr. Nandini Kannan is the new Executive Director of the Indo-U.S. Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF), a bilateral, autonomous organization jointly funded by the Indian and United States governments to “promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation through substantive interaction among government, academia and industry.” She brings leadership experience in academia and government, an understanding of the critical role that science and technology play in this global inter-connected society, and a deep commitment to education and workforce development.

Dr. Kannan spent over 20 years in academia, first as a faculty member and then as Chair, Department of Management Science and Statistics at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). During her time at UTSA, she helped to develop new undergraduate and graduate programs and led a university-wide initiative on quantitative literacy. Since 2014, Dr. Kannan has served as a Program Director at the US National Science Foundation (NSF) where her responsibilities included core disciplinary research, mathematical sciences research institutes, and workforce development programs in the Division of Mathematical Sciences as well as a number of cross-directorate and cross-agency activities. She has served as a co-chair for several Data Science related activities in support of Harnessing the Data Revolution, one of NSF’s 10 Big Ideas. She helped to create new programs to support data science foundations as well as data-intensive research in different science and engineering domains. Dr. Kannan also helped to create partnerships with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support collaborative efforts in biomedical data science. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the International Indian Statistical Association (IISA) and is a former President of IISA.

Dr. Kannan received her B. Sc. in Statistics from Presidency College, Chennai and an M. Sc. degree in Statistics from the University of Madras before joining the Indian Statistical Institute as a Junior Research Fellow. She received an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from The Pennsylvania State University under the supervision of Professor C. R. Rao. She is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute.

Andrew Thangaraj

Andrew Thangaraj is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. His bachelors was from IIT Madras (1998) and PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA (2003). His research interests are in the areas of information theory and error-control coding, and he has served on the editorial boards of the IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory.

From Nov 2011, he has been one of the Coordinators of the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL, nptel.ac.in), a multi-institutional project funded by the Ministry of Education and managed by IIT Madras. At NPTEL, he played a key role in the starting of online courses and certification on a massive scale through the SWAYAM portal (swayam.gov.in). He is currently the Principal Investigator for SWAYAM.

At IIT Madras, he led a team of faculty that started the Bachelor of Science Degree in Data Science & Applications (onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in), launched in June 2020, with online course content delivery and in-person exams. He is currently a coordinator for this program.

Amit Apte

Amit Apte is an applied mathematician working on data assimilation and dynamical systems in earth sciences. Prior to joining IISER Pune as the Chairperson of the newly established department of data science in 2021, he was a faculty member at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) and the Centre For Applicable Mathematics (TIFR-CAM). Partha Pratim Talukdar

Partha is a Staff Research Scientist at Google Research, Bangalore where he leads a group focused on Natural Language Understanding. He is also an Associate Professor (on leave) at IISc Bangalore. Partha founded KENOME, an enterprise Knowledge graph company with the mission to help enterprises make sense of unstructured data. Previously, Partha was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University, working with Tom Mitchell on the NELL project. He received his PhD (2010) in CIS from the University of Pennsylvania. Partha is broadly interested in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and in making language technologies more inclusive. Partha is a recipient of several awards, including an Outstanding Paper Award at ACL 2019. He is a co-author of a book on Graph-based Semi-Supervised Learning.

Vandana Janeja

Vandana Janeja is Professor and Chair of the Information Systems department at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and director of iHARP, an NSF HDR Institute for Harnessing Data and Model Revolution in the Polar Regions. Her research is in the area of data science focusing on spatio-temporal mining, data heterogeneity across multi-domain datasets. She heads the Multi Data lab at UMBC which brings together important societal projects such as climate change, ethics in data science, misinformation detection and security through the lens of her research in data science.

She is member of the UMBC ADVANCE Executive committee focusing on diversity in STEM and a member of the ADVANCE leadership cohort (2020-2021), an ELATES at Drexel leadership fellow (2021-2022) and a UMBC innovation fellow (2020-2022) advancing the ideas of including ethics in data science. She served as an expert at NSF supporting data science activities in the CISE directorate (2018-2021) and AAAS S&TP fellow (2017-2018), where she helped with the visioning and coordination of cross directorate activities for Harnessing the Data Revolution Big Idea at NSF including Data Science Corps and Open Knowledge Network among others and, related activities in the CISE directorate including Cloud Access.

Her research has been funded through federal, state and private organizations including NSF, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, MD State Highway Administration, CISCO. She holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from Rutgers University. She completed her MBA from Rutgers University and MS in Computer Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Poonam Goyal

Dr. Poonam Goyal is Professor in the Department of Computer Science at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus where she heads the Web Intelligence and Social Computing Lab. She is also a core member of APPCAIR AI Research center and founding member of the Advanced Data Analytics and Parallel Technologies Laboratory and Disruptive Technologies Lab.

Her main research area is AI/ML with specific interests in Multimodal Learning, Multimodal knowledge-graphs, NLP, CV, Multimedia retrieval, Video Analytics, & HPC for AI. She has published her research in multiple top journals of IEEE and ACM transactions and in highly ranked IEEE conferences like Cluster, Big Data, HiPC, DSAA. She has secured funding from Industry (Adobe, Mercedes-Benz, etc.) & Govt. agencies like DST-SERB, ICMR, & MEITY.

She is a recipient of two globally competitive research awards from top IT companies. In 2021, she won a Research award from Google under their Google AI for Social Good initiative. Anuj Kapoor

Anuj Kapoor is an Assistant Professor of Quantitative Marketing at IIM Ahmedabad. His research interests are in the economics of digitization, artificial intelligence, privacy, and digital platforms. His research focuses on understanding how big data and artificial intelligence shape consumer welfare and digital markets. He uses a quasi- and actual experimental variation to explore how different types of human behavior in varying contexts affect algorithms. He works closely with firms to suggest to them more ways to become data-driven. Ashwani Sharma

Prior to eGov, Manish co-founded and was the CTO for LitmusWorld - a SaaS platform for customer experience management. Manish worked with Infosys for 17 years where the last position he held was as a Principal Architect with the Software Engineering and Technology Labs.

Yadati Narahari

Y. Narahari is currently a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Automation, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.

The common thread in his current research is to apply game theory, mechanism design, and artificial intelligence techniques to research problems at the interface of computer science and economics. In particular, he is interested in auctions and markets, cooperative game theory, computational social choice, machine learning, and data analytics. He is also exploring the application of these to digital agriculture and public health problems. He is the author of a textbook entitled ""Game Theory and Mechanism Design"" brought out by the IISc Press and the World Scientific Publishing Company and a Co-Author of two other highly cited books. His recognitions include an IISc Award for Research Excellence in Engineering, and Fellowships of INAE, IEEE, INSA, IASC, and NASI, Homi-Bhabha Fellowship, and J.C. Bose National Fellowship.

Deepak D'Souza

Deepak D'Souza received his PhD from Chennai Mathematical Institute in 2000. Since 2003 he has been at the Department of Computer Science and Automation of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where he is currently a Professor. His areas of interest include program verification, program analysis, and specification and analysis of real-time and hybrid systems. He has been associated with the BS/BTech undergraduate programmes at the Indian Institute of Science, and is currently the convener of the curriculum committee for the institute's newly launched BTech (Math and Computing) programme.

D. Manjunath

D. Manjunath received his BE from Mysore University, MS from IIT Madras and PhD from Rensselaer in 1986, 1989, and 1993 respectively. He has been with the EE Dept. of IIT Bombay since July 1998 where he has been an Institute Chair Professor. He has previously worked in CR&D of GE in Schenectady NY (1990), CIS Dept. of Univ. of Delaware (1992--93), CS Dept. Univ. of Toronto (1993--94) and EE Dept. of IIT Kanpur (1994--98). At IIT Bombay, he was head of Computer Centre during 2011-15. His research interests are in the general areas of stochastic models, communication networks, and performance analysis. His recent research has concentrated on multi-armed bandit problems, economics of the Internet, pricing and queue control. He received the best paper award at SIGMETRICS 2010. He has previously been an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Networking, Queueing Systems: Theory and Applications, and Sadhana: The Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences and now of Current Science. He was TPC chair for COMSNETS 2011 and NCC 2015 and general chair for MobiHoc 2013, COMSNETS 2015 and ACM SIGMETRICS / IFIP Performance 2022. He is a coauthor of two textbooks, Communication Networking: An Analytical Approach (May 2004) and Wireless Networking (Apr 2008), both of which are published by Morgan-Kaufman Publishers.

Sudip Gupta

Prof. Sudip Gupta is an associate professor of finance at the Carey Business School, Johns Hopkins University. He was a faculty and director of Gabelli School of Business, Fordham University’s internationally reputed MSQF program and developed and led a program with focus on big datamachine learning in finance. He has a Ph.D. in economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison and previously taught at NYU-Stern, ISB and Indiana University. Prof Gupta’s current research, teaching and consulting areas include big-data-machine learning, credit ratings, ESG and fintech. Prof Gupta has published papers in top academic journals, an award-winning teacher and recipient of Dean’s impact faculty award for research, teaching and service. Prof Gupta is also a data hackathon champion and used high frequency alternative data and machine learning techniques for alternative credit rating, nowcasting US GDP growth, inflation and ESG rating. He showed that alternative data and machine learning based credit ratings can be used for individuals with low or no credit history to improve credit access. Prof Gupta helps build data science and analytics teams for various financial organizations in the Wall Street and has served as chief data scientist for fintech firms.

Murali Annavaram

Murali Annavaram is the Dean’s Chair Professor in the Ming-Hsieh Department of ECE and CS (joint appointment) at the University of Southern California. He is the Founding Director of the REAL@USC-Meta center, and the architecture thrust leader for the NSF DISCoVER Expeditions center. He is currently the Rukmini Gopalakrishnachar Visiting Chair Professor at the Indian Institute of Science. He held the Robert G. and Mary G. Lane Early Career Chair at USC until 2018 at USC. His research is focused on energy efficient computer system design through heterogeneity, secure and private computing for machine learning systems, and superconducting processor designs. He made significant contributions to the design of 3D stacked processors, EPI throttled systems such as Turbo Boost, GPU server architectures, and privacy preserving traffic sensing using mobile devices, He has been inducted to the hall of fame for three of the prestigious computer architecture conferences ISCA, MICRO and HPCA. He served as a Technical Program Chair for HPCA 2021, and served as the General Co-Chair for ISCA 2018.

Murali received the NSF CAREER award, IBM Faculty Award, Meta’s Featured Research Academic of 2022 award. He received the Stevens Institute's Innovation Inside curriculum award. Murali co-authored Parallel Computer Organization and Design, a widely used textbook to teach both the basic and advanced principles of computer architecture. Murali received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2001. He is an IEEE Fellow and senior member of ACM.

Shankar Venkatgiri

Prior to joining IIMB, Shankar worked in the IT industry around Cambridge, USA. At Sapient, he consulted with clients in energy and healthcare. Shankar has strived to extend the reach of education with technology. He has anchored a program for school mathematics called Topper TV. His MOOCs on business statistics are featured on edX. As the IT Chair during the pandemic, he repurposed the classrooms to handle the needs of students.

I am an active researcher with interests in leveraging ML and DL techniques to make intelligent solutions. In my current role I am working towards AI enablement of a huge task force. Currently designing and implementing AI programs that can make workforce AI ready.

Srijoni Sen

Srijoni Sen teaches at the Institute of Public Policy at National Law School. After graduating from NLSIU in 2009, Srijoni began her career in McKinsey & Co. as a Business Analyst before completing a Masters degree in Law at Columbia University. She was subsequently a founding team member of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy where she led the Public Law team, and also created and ran an open resource digitising and explaining Indian laws.

Binay Panda is a Biotechnology and Systems Medicine professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. Binay received his doctorate from the University of Oxford, UK, Post-Doctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, USA, with a Fellowship from the American Cancer Society. He was a visiting scholar Researcher of Genome Science at the University of Tokyo, Japan. His group’s main interests are data integration, genomic medicine, and building and optimizing computational tools, including machine learning, for high-throughput genomics, and imaging data. His lab’s primary research thrust is to use genomics to understand head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using integrated analysis of heterogeneous data.

Karthik Dantu

Karthik Dantu is an Associate Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of Southern California advised by Prof. Gaurav Sukhatme in 2010 and was a Postdoctoral fellow from 2010-13 at Harvard. He directs the Distributed RObotics and Networked Embedded Sensing (DRONES) Lab and is the founding director of Center of Embodied Autonomy and Robotics (CEAR) at UB. His research interests are in sensing and coordination of multi-robot systems. His research has received the best paper award in IEEE MRS 2021, best poster award in HotMobile 2021, runner-up for best paper in EICS 2019, IPSN 2012. He has been awarded the NSF CAREER award in 2019 and is supported by NSF, DARPA, AFRL, AFOSR and others.

He is also interested in ML and optimization algorithms for ML, and has worked on learning latent representations invariant to geometric transformations and adversarial robustness.
